The creator of Rumi Island

The book she couldn’t find,
she decided to make.

Olya loved two things about childhood: stories read aloud, and the quiet joy of coloring. But when she went looking for a book that combined them, a coloring book with a real story beautiful enough to keep, she came up empty. There were thousands of coloring books. Pages and pages of disconnected pictures. Princesses with no names, castles with no kingdoms, puppies with no story.

High-quality, story-based children’s coloring books simply didn’t exist. So she made them.

She wrote the story first, the way every good book begins. A graceful queen who believes true beauty is kindness. A king whose greatest strength is being gentle. A little grey puppy at a village market, waiting for a family. Then came the illustrations: rose gardens and lion fountains, peach pastries and palace bath-times, each page drawn with bold, clean lines for small hands and enough beauty that parents secretly keep a page or two for themselves.

She named it Rumi Island: a place where fairy tales meet coloring books, and where kids learn that kindness is cooler than superpowers.

Today the Grace & Kind series is growing book by book from her studio in Los Angeles. Every story is still written by Olya herself. Every page still has to pass one test: would a child ask to hear it again tomorrow?
